1979 Epiphone SC-550

Made in Japan. From what I gather, these have a maple body and neck. There's one for sale at Pittsburgh Guitars, they're asking $400. I'm sort of tempted, as I don't currently have a humbucker guitar.

thin-ish maple body + long epi headstock + strap knob where it is = a tad neck-heavy?

I would say no worse than an SG but those are pretty bad. I guess you could always flip it, but who knows what the market for these is like.

I'm pretty ambivalent about this guitar. I guess it's interesting enough... Would look better with nickel hardware BUT I can say that I've had the pleasure of dealing with Pittsburgh Guitars once and must say that heir customer service is fantastic. I bought an early run Vista Jagmaster from them for $250, about a year and a half ago. Even at the low price, these dudes pulled all the stops. They even asked what my set-up preferences were before setting it up and shipping it out. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

A+ to Pittsburgh Guitars. GO FOR THE NECK!

Indeed. Got my Jazzmaster from them two years ago. They are a pleasure to deal with.

Pianos n Stuff is another good store in the Pittsburgh area.

try lawrence music on castle shannon, lots of fender guitars, although other than fender/squier, they only have samicks.

they're good too, if you like fenders. prices are a bit steep though, and they don't seem to have used gear ever. My friend got his Jazz Bass there.
